DATA ENTRY #1 The estranged planet Earth
I awoke on the ground near a run down building named Midwinter. I could only guess what it was like back in the day but then, all of a sudden, there was a strange, calming, yet assertive voice telling me "You need to get up dear." Who......or rather...what is that voice? Once I heard it all my memories started coming back, all except my family. Though I do remember bootcamp, the space station, and Mother. Oh yeah now I remember, Midwinter had something to do with Mother, but why would Mother let this happen? What am I even saying- Mother is just an AI....is she? All I can say for sure is what I'm here for; collect data on scourge and survive.
If I fail, tell Valora nothing will feel as great as her.
This one time, Halden, Valora, and Tarik were venturing towards the Parking Garage, to fight Omicron. Fighting their way from the ground floor through each level, killing Reaver after Reaver while laughing with enjoyment.
"This is Easy" says Halden.
As the explorers rounded the last staircase, the sky was dark, much different than usual, an ominous feeling.
"Something seems off," Tarik states.
"I can hear him though.. just keep moving." Valora replies.
As they approach the drum-like sound, they see him. Standing there beating the ground with his weapon. The Explorers all lift their weapons, aiming at him.
"Ready? FIRE!" Tarik yells.
As the Explorers begin unloading on Omicron, a massive WOOSH like sound can be heard.
Halden, grabs his chest, drops to his knees, and begins crawling on the ground. Valora and Tarik are stunned in disbelief at what just happened.
"What was that?" Asks Valora.
"I... I have no idea.." says Tarik.
Omicron, still beating the ground with his weapon, not moving an inch.
Tarik goes to check on Halden.
and Tarik hits the ground.
Valora, with rage in her bulging eyes, begins blasting her shotgun at Omicron, and he still does not budge. Valora, screaming with rage, unloading shot after shot, not understanding why he just doesn't seem phased, he won't budge.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
She stops. Takes a deep breath from exhaustion.
"I don't understand," she says.
So, I was in this huge area with alot of scaffolding and mobs, and that big Outlander boss right? My two teammates were knocked down on the ground floor, I was still at the top taking potshots at the enemy. They're all down there T-bagging my friends and whatnot, so I think, hell I'll just drop on them and scare them. So I chuck two grenades down there, and drop after they explode, wielding my purple chainsaw blade. I made mincemeat out of them all and clutched it, physically cried of joy for a moment, and got my team healed up. Easy wins.
Kali entered the warm Drop Ship. The round was effectively over, Halden and Letty were taking their time, dealing with a monstrous scourge called Sluka before they came up to the ship. They had defeated all other groups of Explorers whose greed won out over their desire to return to Sanctuary with data for Mother. Kali smiled as she remembered how she relieved them of their duty taking the data herself. Mother would be pleased.
She opened her Outlander Horde to see what resources it had, Mother allowed them to bring one thing of salvage per person from the planet for repurposing. She rummaged through the random bits of metal, the pieces of braided cord, and rock like resources, when a slip of paper fell to the floor. She kneeled picking up the paper, it had some sort of markings on it.
She tried to contain her excitement, she’d never seen Outlander writing, didn’t know they were capable of it. As Mother says, “Wretched brutes and cannibals, nothing more.” She opened the folded paper slowly, trying not to damage it, it could be very old, maybe one of them picked it up out of a collapsed structure.
The writing was a little hard to make out on the rough paper, she scooted over closer to the Core in the center of the ship to use the lighting coming from it.

Wretched Brutes and Cannibals… Kali felt ill. They are supposed to be just crazy mutated people.. not people. And the Warlord was an Explorer, but those left behind were suppose to die, the bodies built by the Keepers aren’t sustainable long term. That’s what Mother said.
She stopped.. Mother said that. When? Why do I think she said that. Something occurred to her and she peered down at the paper again. “don’t come this year”.. how long have these Expeditions been going on. Mother prepped them like this was the first time Sanctuary could send a large expedition. But to them, it was clockwork, something they predict and prepare for.
Letty and Halden entered the Pod and the doors began to close, detecting all 3 of the last surviving team on the ship, overriding the default timer. Halden walked over to Kali.
“We got the Sluka thingy, and even a few elites that were there, got a few hundred more data!”
The smile on his face was a bit crooked and earnest. He’s never thought about it, but neither had Kali before. Then her fingers began to itch a little, and feel tingly. The paper started to change color as the Ascent Boosters kicked on shaking the whole ship.
“It getting hot in here or is it just me?” Halden exclaimed, “But seriously Letty is it getting hotter in here?”
Letty walked over to the Core, “Shielding looks a little incomplete, but it should be fine, these bodies were modified to resist extreme temperatures. That’s why we don’t have to wear 40 layers to run around out there. It’ll be a little uncomfortable on the ride up, but should be nothing to worry about. Not like we can do anything about it from here.” She walked over to the wall on the far side from the central core. “I wonder what prize Mother’s gonna reward us with for all this data.”
Kali stared at the paper as it started to fall apart, and she realized something horrible. As her vision began to blur and fail, Mother wants the data to get back to Sanctuary, why would she need us Explorers to get back as well.
The sky was black as death, the air as cold as empty space, the woods were calm, too calm.
“Damn I really don’t like this,” Halden thought to himself as he ventured deeper into the woods to get to the lodestone, he was taking a shortcut through the woods to get there.
Grrrrrrr, he hears a faint sound in the distance.
O no I don’t like that, he turns and sees a bear in his path, maybe that’s what made the noise, he thought to himself. Boy was he wrong...
